Challenge

Utilize the principles and methods of human factors engineering and human systems integration (HSI) to develop user interface design concepts and standards.

Title

Human Factors Engineer and UX Designer

Responsibilities

Update the design to a Naval Weather Tracking application system to make it more user friendly for the types of tasks and limited space they had on naval ships.  Performed user assessments to determine areas for improvement and capture user flows.

Map PSE products across the DoD Lifecycle and create mockups for a website that would showcase these products and how/when to use them across a project's Lifecycle.

What was accomplished

Used HFE and HSI methods to implement design specifications and requirements for naval weather SaaS applications.

Created aeronautical web application standards.

Designed an interactive website to map PSE products against the DoD Acquisition Lifecycle.

Constructed lo and hi fidelity prototypes using Balsamiq, Powerpoint, and Visio.

Constructed and conducted user assessments.

Samples

1. METOC Weather Application
Updated the layout and design of current Weather Application to improve usability for naval officers on ships.  Provided user stories based on assessments conducted with users of current system.

2. Map of Products over Lifecycle
Created lo fidelity mockups of a propose website to map PSE products across the DoD Acquisition Lifecycle.  Users would be able to down-select what parts of the Framework and timeline they were in to most effectively find the products that would help them.
